The Global Trade of Cadmium and Articles Thereof Declines Drastically, Poland Becomes a Major Exporter

According to recently published IndexBox research «World: Cadmium And Articles Thereof - Market Report. Analysis and Forecast to 2020» ( http://www.indexbox.co.uk/store/world-cadmium-and-articles-thereof-market-report-analysis-and-forecast-to-2020/ ), the global trade in cadmium and articles thereof amounted to 36.04 million USD in 2015, fluctuating mildly over the period under review. A significant drop in 2009 was followed by a dramatic recovery in 2010, until exports plummeted again in 2011. Export value continued falling over the two years that followed, until the trend reversed to a very modest recovery in 2014. Overall, there was an annual decrease of -11% from 2007 to 2015.

According to IndexBox estimates, the Republic of Korea remained far ahead of all other major exporters of cadmium and articles thereof. In 2015, exports of cadmium and articles thereof from the Republic of Korea totaled 7.04 million USD, which accounted for a 20% share of global exports. Poland, China, Mexico, and USA were the other key global suppliers of cadmium and articles thereof in 2015, with a 39% combined share of global exports.

Poland (+27% per year) and China (+0.7% per year) were the only exporters that showed positive growth from 2007 to 2015. Poland's rapid growth rate allowed it to expand its share of exports from 1% in 2007 to 18% in 2015, putting the country on the list of major exporters.

On the other hand, China (46%, based on value terms), India (18%), Sweden (8%), Republic of Korea (7%), and USA (5%) were the leading destinations of imports of cadmium and articles thereof in 2015. Imports to India grew at a rapid pace of +36% per year from 2007 to 2015, while all other key importers significantly cut back on their imports of cadmium and articles thereof over the same period. India's share in terms of global imports increased significantly (+18 percentage points), while the balance of importing countries posted more modest gains in share size.
