EFMC 2008 - THE European Facility Management Conference

10 and 11 June 2008, The Palace Hotel, Manchester, UK

Facility Management faces global challenges. Competition and internationalisation will increase in 2008, and cost efficiency will become more and more important. At the same time, service tasks are becoming more complex. Thus, FM today is far more than caretaking; it is a considerable economic factor which has one essential goal: adding value to the core business of those who make use of FM services. Strategies, opportunities, and functionality of FM will be discussed at THE European Facility Management Conference EFMC 2008. This single most-relevant FM event in Europe is hosted by the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and the European Facility Management Network (EuroFM). The 5th edition of EFMC will take place on 10 and 11 June 2008 in the City of Manchester and will most certainly establish a new landmark in the FM profession. EFMC 2008 expects more than 600 delegates from all over the world.

For the first time, the Business Conference and the Research Symposium are consolidated at EFMC 2008. Key note speakers at the Business Conference are Hamish McRae (UK) and Paul A. Tiffany (US). Hamish Mc Rae is one of Europe´s leading futurists and principal economic commentator of "The Independent"; he will speak about global business and its impact on FM. Paul A. Tiffany, PhD, is Senior Lecturer at The Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, and director of Paul Tiffany & Associates; he will talk on business and future perspectives. In plenary and parallel sessions as well as in panel discussions there will be treated the following subjects: Strategies in a Global World, Adding Business Value and the Economics of FM, Business Continuity and Risk Management, Change Management and Process Orientation, Sustainability and Energy Management, Customer Services and Quality Management, Business and Technology Trends, Partnership across Borders.

More than 60 top speakers from Europe and abroad will give a lecture at EFMC 2008, such as Stephen Ballesty, Levett Bucknall (Australia); Maxcene Crowe, MCFM Consultancy Ltd. (UK); Jos Duchamps, PROCOS Group (Belgium); Peter Ferguson, Johnson Controls (UK); Pedro Garcia, Neinver (Spain); Preben Gramstrup, Nykredit Ejendomme A/S (Denmark); Mike Packham, Bernard Williams Associates (UK); Svein Harald Storli, StatoilHydro ASA (Norway); Maril van Waes, Dow Chemical Company (The Netherlands); and Kristof Vanvelk, Philips Belgium Luxembourg (Belgium).

The 7th EuroFM Research Symposium accompanying the Business Conference will deal with FM horizons, FM futures, workplace management, and usability in plenary and parallel sessions, paper sessions, and postgraduate workshops. Beside the conference and the Research Symposium, the Student Poster Competition will be re-edited, and the 2nd European FM Awards Gala Dinner will hold to recognise the most distinguished professional achievements in the industry across the continent.

EFMC 2008 in Manchester will be supported by more than 28 FM Professional Associations and 37 universities and research institutions in Europe. In the UK, the conference is honoured to count, amongst several institutional supporters, with highly recognised institutions such as the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM), the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), and the University of Salford who are actively involved in the project. Other international associations such as the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) will be participating at EFMC 2008 for the first time. Also several media partners from all over Europe will support EFMC 2008. The involved associations and partners will provide additional pre and post conference opportunities such as several workshops, members meetings and board meetings.

A programme of themed visits, hosted by local partners and supported by sponsors, will provide the opportunity of understanding key issues being addressed by FM practitioners in Greater Manchester. And in addition to this, the City of Manchester offers an array of leisure opportunities for visitors which EFMC 2008 will complement with a social programme worth a visit. The Business Conference, Research Symposium and associated events will also create a physical and virtual learning experience for all participants to share ideas, knowledge and expertise in a community of practice.
