Day 18 of Tribal Futures Fest: Screening of Jal Sanrakshan Se Vikas Ki Or and Discussion with Sanjay Singh
As part of the ongoing Tribal Futures Fest, Green Hub Fellow Sanjay Singh presented his film Jal Sanrakshan Se Vikas Ki Or (Towards Progress with Water Conservation) on the 18th day of the event, hosted by Swati Lakra, Architect based in Jajpur, Odisha. The screening shed light on a watershed management project addressing severe water scarcity in the villages of Khera, Kota, Dadri, and Lurghuti. The film documents the challenges faced by these communities, where lack of reliable water sources led to daily struggles and significant agricultural losses. Initiated by an NGO, the project collaborated closely with local residents to implement water conservation techniques, including constructing check dams, contour trenches, and farm ponds. These interventions not only captured rainwater but also replenished groundwater, providing a sustainable solution to the crisis.
Beyond infrastructure, the initiative focused on community awareness programs about water conservation and sustainable livelihood practices. The combination of education, participation, and effective implementation revitalized water sources, alleviated scarcity, and significantly improved socio-economic conditions.
The session following the screening featured an engaging talk by Sanjay Singh, who delved into the project's journey, challenges, and transformative impact on the villages.
The session concluded with a 30-minute Q&A, providing the audience an opportunity to engage with Sanjay Singh. The discussion highlighted the broader importance of sustainable water management in promoting rural development and resilience.
The film was created under the Green Hub Central India (GHCI) fellowship, an initiative by the Dusty Foot Foundation and Mahashakti Seva Kendra (MSK). The GHCI fellowship empowers youth in environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture, and livelihoods using digital media, with support from the Bharat Rural Livelihood Fund (BRLF).
The session with Sanjay Singh, Green Hub Fellow highlighted the potential of grassroots initiatives in addressing critical issues and fostering sustainable development, aligning with the vision of Tribal Futures Fest to celebrate and advance tribal innovation and resilience.
