Officer Coolidge, a young and dedicated public servant, was shot in the line of duty on September 3 while responding to a call with his partner, Officer Matthew Haney, near 16th Street and McDowell. The suspect fired on both officers, who were rushed to the hospital, while additional officers took the suspect into custody.

Officer Haney, protected by his ballistic vest, was discharged from the hospital the next day. Sadly, Officer Coolidge succumbed to his injuries a few days later, leaving behind his wife, Kristin, and their six-month-old daughter.
