The Future Of Media Industry: How AI-Localized Films Will Soon

Google Cloud Innovator and Responsible AI Researcher Denys Krasnikov introduced a new AI technological solution at The Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Summit last week. This innovation offers a unique approach to video translation and dubbing by prioritizing emotional accuracy, enabling a more culturally adaptive and resonant viewing experience. The presentation took place at the SMPTE Summit, the Hollywood Media industry's premier annual event organized by SMPTE, the world's leading standards organization. It plays an essential role in developing technical approaches that ensure consistency, quality, and innovation in film, television, and digital media, shaping Hollywood's adaptation to advancements like AI.

Denys Krasnikov addressed a gap in current AI-powered translations, which are limited now mainly to content where emotional nuance is less critical. The new technological solution detects not just the meaning of phrases but also intonations, identifies on-screen emotions, and compiles this data into a new database to synthesize emotions in new languages with additional parameters. This enables emotionally accurate translations that preserve the content creator's intent while making it relatable and engaging across cultural divides. "Emotions are experienced differently across cultures and generations, so capturing and transferring these feelings is essential for authentic storytelling, moreover, this is not stable but a dynamic characteristic of so various behavior templates in different countries," said Denys Krasnikov. "Our technology allows translated content to resonate deeply with diverse audiences worldwide with varying interpretations of emotions. Of course, AI-localized films will become even more captivating soon than the best versions translated by human actors now."

After the SMPTE Summit, Krasnikov presented demonstrations of emotion-translated videos, highlighting the technology's scalability across languages. This new solution complements the technologies created by the team of Alexandr Konovalov, Eugen von Rubinberg, and Denys Krasnikov of previous accomplishments, including Vidby, an AI video localization tool recognized as a YouTube Recommended Technology for multilingual audio tracks, as well as real-time voice-to-voice translation solution for Google Meet and Zoom calls.

In addition to their scientific and business achievements, Denys Krasnikov announced a humanitarian initiative at the Star Independent Film Festival, organized by renowned event producer from Miami Alena Yaremchuk. This initiative provides free real-time translation services on Google Meet and Zoom to nonprofits supporting humanitarian efforts in Ukraine, demonstrating the team's commitment to addressing some of the most severe problems of the global society today.
