Cheer Counseling offers some of the most caring and highly skilled counselors in Brandon and surrounding cities. We offer help with relationship problems, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, stress and general dissatisfaction with life. The National Institute for Mental Health estimates that in the United States, 16 million adults have at least one major depressive episode per year. That's 6.9 percent of the population. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression. It is a leading cause of disability. However, it’s one that isn’t necessary. Therapy works extremely well in helping people resolve depression, with or without medication. It also helps with anxiety, which affects twenty to thirty percent of adults in the United States.

Depression and anxiety are also factors in divorce. Forty-five to fifty percent of first marriages end in divorce. The number is even higher for second and third marriages. There are people who think that counseling is too expensive, but the cost of counseling is a drop-in-the-bucket when compared to the cost of a divorce, and it isn’t just attorney fees. There is the cost of doubling expenses by now needing two homes instead of one. Even more serious is the emotional cost to both partners, and to children who have to adjust to a broken home. Children find themselves in the middle of their parent’s crisis, and often blame themselves. They may lose friends and their grades may drop in school or they may exhibit new behavior problems. Everyone involved is angry and unhappy. Divorce is a lose-lose situation. How much better it is when couples come to counseling early, before the problems become too serious to resolve. If you are feeling unhappy or stressed in your relationship, take care of yourself and your family. Call and get help without delay. You’ll be glad you did.

Years ago counseling took years and years. Today’s counseling is faster and more effective than ever. You’ll begin feeling better after just one session. Even better, insurance often pays most or even all of your costs.

For people who chose not to use insurance, or don’t have insurance that covers counseling, we offer a sliding scale which is affordable for most people. Our goal isn’t to get rich by gouging you, but rather to help you feel better and learn to manage your emotions effectively.

Starting counseling is as easy as calling (813) 662-4214. If it’s after hours, your call will forward to Linda Falkner’s cell phone so you never need to worry about calling after closing or on weekends. Linda answers her phone 24 hours, or will return your call if she is unable to answer immediately. You will be asked a few simple questions: your name, address, phone number, e-mail and insurance ID and group number. If you chose to use insurance, please have your card information with you when you make the call. We also accept Employee Assistance Program (EAP) sessions. We are friendly on the phone and in person, so you don’t need to feel nervous about calling us. We know that contacting a counselor for help can be frightening the first time you do it and we will do our best to put you at ease.
