FMB – Leuchten & Schmiedeeisen GmbH has manufactured an impressive object made of steel in keeping with New York‘s style of the 1920s for the Art Déco furnishing of the restaurant ‘‘Hohoff‘s 800° C – The Golden Cage“.

Hohoffs 800°C has been one of the leading steak houses in North Rhine-Westphalia for years.
The restaurant has a telling name - here the steaks are grilled at 800°C. The owner, Michael Hohoff, makes sure not only to choose the best meat for his steaks and have the best grill for the meat, but also takes heed of how to create the right atmosphere through interior furnishing.

The former boiler house of the ancient textile mill Elbers in Hagen dating back to the year 1930 provides the scenery for a journey back to that time.

The dining hall is a cathedral-like room with walls as high as 11 metres. On a base of 9x14 metres ‘‘The golden Cage“ was installed on the interior walls to decorate the room. For that purpose a tubular steel scaffolding was mounted at a height of 11.5 metres that people can walk on.

The interior mirrors the New York of the 1920s and 1930s. That were the decades when the Art Déco design (decorative art) had reached its architectural peak.

The architect Andreas Hanke, owner of the company Stadtbildplanung (townscape) in Dortmund, has created an unforgettable atmosphere here. The contrasts of the Art Déco, which also characterize Hohoffs 800°C, make use of hard and soft as well as heavy and light materials. Natural material like wood combined with precious stones and the shining surface of steel create a unique stage for a perfect culinary appearance through a fascinating interplay of light.

The Golden Cage is a master piece of wrought-iron work and manifests how enthusiastically and skillfully individual requests can be realised.

All in all 2700 metres of steel were used to build 98 double rings of steel. To the links of the edges forged rondos were fixed and their centres were decorated by brassed spheres. The surface shines in golden pigment and the total weight of the construction is 7.5 t.

Since 1967 FMB Leuchten & Schmiedeeisen GmbH designs, makes and refines products forged or made from high-grade steel, steel and wrought iron such as stairs, banisters, handrails, gates and balconies as well as more than 300 individually forged lamps and lights. At our production centre in Borken we can powder clad not only forged products made of steel or wrought iron but also realise different patinas or colours for the products.
