The hydrophilic membranes have significantly lower protein adsorption compared to nitrocellulose, nylon, and PTFE membranes, making them suitable for sterilizing filtration of protein solutions, tissue culture media, antibiotics, and ethanol, as well as for particle removal filtration and biological testing (such as receptor binding studies, TCA precipitation). Hydrophobic membranes are suitable for organic solvents and air filtration. Even at very low differential pressure, they ensure the unobstructed passage of moist air or other gases, while aqueous solutions cannot pass through.
