GizmoPhd Tardiness Tips

Press release from: GizmoPhd.com

Mike Fritsch, founder of GizmoPhd.com was interviewed for a recent article on tardiness that appeared in both the Tacoma News Tribune and the Times Herald Record. Mike provided these tips:

1. Know what time it really is
If you don’t know the correct time than you can’t be on time. Carry an accurate watch or other timepiece with you every day. If you don’t wear a watch you can use your cell phone or PDA as your watch. You also want to make sure your timepiece is accurate as a slow watch or PDA will cause you to be tardy.

2. Synchronize all the time pieces in your life
If two clocks “disagree,” which will you believe? Your watch, your alarm clock, your microwave, your VCR, and the clock in your car should all say the same time.

3. Carry your calendar and to-do list
To avoid tardiness you need to know your schedule. It’s hard to know your schedule if your calendar is back at your desk and you are on the road. Likewise, without a to-do list your are likely to forget tasks for the day. Things will slip through the cracks and you’ll end up running late.

4. Be Prepared
Looking at your appointments the night before and planning your day will keep you on time. Make sure you know where each appointment is. Map out the directions ahead of time and estimate your travel time.

5. Arrive 10 minutes early
If you plan to arrive 10 minutes early to every appointment, then you will almost always be on time regardless of little glitches. Ten minutes give you that extra buffer time to find parking, locate the right office, or correct for taking that wrong turn.

6. Take some work and bring a book
Carry your cell phone, a magazine, or some work with you throughout the day. That way you won’t waste time between appointments. You’ll be productive when you arrive early or if someone keeps you waiting.

7. Know your destination
Write down the address and phone number for all your appointments. Use Yahoo Driving Directions of Mapquest to print out driving directions for a new location.

8. Prepare the Night Before
If you tend to be tardy in the morning then layout your clothes and work items the night before. That way you won’t spend time in the morning searching for things.

9. Hold everything
Don’t be tardy because you’ve lost your keys, your wallet, your phone or purse. Use a system so items like these don’t get misplaced. Hooks, baskets, and containers work great as designated holders for each of these items.

10. Schedule for the real world
Your schedule needs to reflect reality. Leave time between meetings to travel from one meeting to another. Allow a buffer time in case one meeting runs long.
