In contrast, gamma delta T cells can recognize stress-induced ligands directly, without the need for antigen processing and presentation. They can inhibit the activity of immunosuppressive cells, such as regulatory T cells (Tregs) and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), which are often present in the TME and can hinder the immune response against tumors. By reducing the immunosuppressive properties of the TME, gamma delta T cells create a more favorable environment for immune-mediated tumor destruction.

Moreover, gamma delta T cells have demonstrated the potential for long-lasting immune memory. Their interactions with other immune cells, including antigen-presenting functions, help generate durable immune responses that can prevent tumor recurrence. This characteristic is vital for achieving sustained remission and long-term cancer control.
