Tougher than ever: Gleistein Ropes to present innovative rope construction-type alternative and more at SMM 2016 in Hamburg

Visitors to the Gleistein Ropes stand at this year’s SMM in Hamburg can look forward to witnessing a world first. The SMM (Shipbuilding, Machinery & Marine Technology) is the world’s leading international maritime trade fair and will host the first public presentation of a new type of rope construction developed by the Gleistein R&D department, which is already demonstrating sensational resilience in initial tests. Also sure to spark sizeable interest will be our pioneering FLX Mooring System – a mooring solution for large vessels that boasts maximum strength, easiest handling and astounding lifetime cost-efficiency. On show too will be the revamped design of several rope types including our family of ultra-high performance X-Twin and X-Mooring lines. Also wanting to share the limelight at the fair is our tough, ready-made GeoMooring Tail stretcher, which has been beefed up another notch with a new cover fibre mix making it more resilient against abrasion. In addition, visitors to the Gleistein trade fair stand can be the first to get their hands on the latest Gleistein Ropes GeoMarine catalogue, incorporating these and all the other innovative Gleistein rope solutions for the commercial marine industry. SMM Hamburg 2016 opens its doors 6-9 September 2016 at the Hamburg Fair grounds. The Gleistein Ropes booth is located in Hall A1, Stand 424.

First public presentation of promising all-new rope construction type
Renowned for ground-breaking innovation throughout its history that spans more than 190 years, Gleistein Ropes has never been ready to rest on its laurels, nor has it ever shied away from questioning the status quo. Now, true to the company’s maxim, something big is on the horizon: The Gleistein Ropes R&D team has taken a close look at the entire production process of our 64mm and larger One and Square-type ropes and has come up with an extremely promising alternative solution. Codenamed CableBraid/CablePlait, the new patent-pending construction type is already showing sensational results including double-digit increases in strength in initial trials. This latest breakthrough will be publically presented at SMM Hamburg 2016 for the very first time and is testimony to the Gleistein Ropes resolve to always continue to set standards for lighter, more effective and economical rope solutions.

An industry favourite: FLX Mooring System
The revolutionary Gleistein Ropes FLX Mooring System keeps going from strength to strength. And that is little wonder. The system combines a low stretch main mooring line with a highly elastic tail acting as the economical sacrificial element. This means longevity of the main mooring line with Dyneema® is dramatically increased and the lifetime costs of the overall system are radically cut – as only the tail will generally need to be replaced. Moreover, it is much lighter than a conventional mooring system to ensure easier, safer handling and is also significantly more compact, thereby reducing onboard real estate requirements. With its informal motto “The bigger the ship the better”, the high-tech FLX Mooring System is installed on many large cruise liners including AIDAprima and AIDAperla, Carnival Vista as well as both the Allure and Oasis of the Seas. At the SMM, our team of experts can explain the various available configurations and outline the handling and lifetime cost benefits this system delivers.

Revamped designs also lead to even safer handling
A design makeover means that our lines with a mooring-type construction (seven braided cores, firmly bundled in a protective cover) now generally all feature lengthwise markings. This is not only symbolic for their multiple cores, it also makes twists easily visible when in use and thereby provides handy torsional control at a glance. Our family of ultra-high performance X-Twin and X-Mooring lines now also sports a new, consistent look for immediate recognition: heat-set X-Twin and X-Mooring lines will now always feature red markings and the non-heat-set versions will be marked green. These new versions that not only look great but also have a practical benefit, will be on display at the trade fair stand. In addition, GeoMooring Tail has received some new threads. Its cover is now made of the “Plus” fibre mix comprising polyolefin (BiPo) and polyester, giving it even greater abrasion resistance than before.

Hot off the press: the new GeoMarine catalogue
All visitors to the Gleistein Ropes booth will also be the first to have the opportunity to pick up their personal copy of the brand-new GeoMarine catalogue. It incorporates all the latest solutions for all commercial marine rope demands in a clearly structured and informative manner.
