Press release from: Mpact Recycling

/ PR Agency: PR Worx
Tetra Pak and Mpact Recycling, in partnership with Food & Trees for Africa, have planted 54 trees between Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban to celebrate Mandela Day.

Employees from Tetra Pak and Mpact Recycling planted 18 trees at each of the three sites on Wednesday, July 20 in Johannesburg and Pinetown, and Thursday, July 21 in Cape Town.

“At Mpact Recycling, we’re in the business of sustainability through our active commitment to job creation, looking after the environment and socio economic activities,” says John Hunt, MD of Mpact Recycling, the leading paper and plastic recycler in South Africa.

“Our brand promise is to Protect What’s Good,” says Agripa Munyai, environmental manager at Tetra Pak South Africa, “which focuses on protecting food, people, and the future. Planting trees is highly effective at promoting environmental sustainability and defeating the climate crisis. It’s also closely related to the partnership we have with Mpact Recycling, which centres around reclaiming our 100% recyclable carton packs right here in South Africa so they can be used again in a variety of ways.”

Trees will be planted at Kwabhekilanga Secondary School in Alexandra, Gauteng, Johnn Wesley Primary School in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, and Ikamvalethu Primary School in Langa, Western Cape.

Primary schools were chosen particularly because Nelson Mandela viewed children as Africa’s greatest asset. “Africa is renowned for its beauty, its natural heritage and prolific resources – but equally, the image of its suffering children haunts the conscience of our Continent and the world,” he said in 1996.

The time to act is now, and what better opportunity than #67Minutes.

Mpact is a leading manufacturer of paper and plastics packaging in southern Africa. The Paper business is integrated across the recycled paper-based corrugated and converted paper products packaging value chain and comprises three divisions being Recycling, Paper Manufacturing and Corrugated and Converted Paper Products.
