Press release from: Flash Drive Direct

The 16 Billion dollar promotional products industry has a more robust supplier today as Flash Drive designer and manufacturer Flash Drive Direct increased its stake in the ad specialty business by 45% with the acquisition of environmental technology leader and promotional flash drive rival USBAdspec.

USB Flash Drive manufacturer USBAdspec came to prominence last summer when it had put forth a Green Paper on the positive impact that the use of computer peripherals called flash drives had on the environment.

In the USBAdspec paper, information on flash drives environmental impact was presented to the electronics and promotional products industry. In it, USBAdspec flash drives were tested and compared to the use of energy expounded when a CD is burned on a conventional PC to the energy consumed in the making of a USB Flash Drive. The test results showed that the energy and petrochemicals consumed in the making of a conventional CD (even before it was burned with information) was 1.78 times that of the energy consumed in the construction of the average Flash Drive.

Further research showed that the energy consumed in burning information (kilowatts) onto a CD was on average 15 times the energy consumption of the simple transfer of information onto a USB Flash Drive.

The paper goes on to say “Considering that 97% of all CD sales are for 1 time use (non-rewritable) and that nearly half of all CD’s are used only 1.3 times (on average) for the simple transfer of data from 1 computer to another, when you compare that large amount of energy consumed to the small eco-footprint when using a Flash Drive it is fair to say the USBAdspec Flash Drives are deserving of the eco-friendly designation” stated paper co-author Consumer Reports writer J. Browne. “USBAdspec Flash Drives saved over 500% in energy consumption”, cites the Consumer Reports author

As a result of the acquisition Flash Drive Direct inherits a whole new environmental strategy and technology. This proprietary technology should go well in furthering Flash Drive Directs market share in the promotional products industry.
