Chinese Companies Assist Singapore in Achieving 100% Green Water Supply
Located in the western part of Singapore, the Tengeh Reservoir is home to a 60MW floating photovoltaic project-the Tengeh Solar Power Plant, which is equivalent in size to 45 football fields. The electricity generated can meet the power needs of five water treatment plants in Singapore. In addition to the floating solar power project, China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd (Energy China) has also constructed green projects such as energy storage and waste-to-energy power plants in Singapore, accelerating the pace of sustainable development in the country. Recently, China News Network invited "overseas anchor" Cuihua to Singapore to closely understand the new changes brought by these green projects to the country.Image: https://aliypic.oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com/Uploadfiles/20240325/2024032508381968.001.png
Reducing 32,000 Tons of Carbon Emissions
The floating solar power project covers one-third of the entire water area, equivalent to 45 football fields, and can help Singapore reduce carbon emissions by 32,000 tons per year, equivalent to the emissions from 7,000 cars, helping Singapore become one of the few countries in the world to achieve 100% green water supply.
Compared with traditional rooftop power generation, the efficiency of floating solar power generation is increased by 5% to 15%. Since the project is located at one of Singapore's five major water sources, China Energy Engineering Group Shanxi Electric Power Engineering Co., Ltd. has incorporated the protection of water sources and their ecosystems throughout the entire execution phase of the project, starting from the bidding process.
To minimize the impact on the environment and water quality, CEEC carefully designs and selects each component of the photovoltaic system. The floating platforms for the solar panels are made of food-grade high-density polyethylene plastic with UV resistance. This prevents material degradation due to sunlight exposure, with a designed service life of up to 25 years.
Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited the project site during the opening ceremony and spoke highly of it. Currently, the project has been officially handed over to Singapore for management and operation.

Covering an Area of 3 Football Fields
In addition to the Tengeh Solar Power Plant, China Energy Engineering Group Shanxi Electric Power Engineering Co., Ltd. has also built Southeast Asia's largest energy storage project-the Jurong Island Energy Storage Project-in Singapore.
The total planned capacity of the project is 200MWh, covering an area of about two hectares, roughly the size of three football fields. The completion of the Jurong Island Energy Storage Project is of great significance for actively responding to mismatches in electricity supply and demand, regulating and mitigating grid fluctuations, and assisting in maintaining the reliability of the local power grid. At the same time, the smooth operation of the project also marks that Singapore's energy storage target for the 2030 Green Plan has been achieved ahead of schedule.

Meeting the Electricity Needs of 200,000 Households
Furthermore, the Integrated Waste Management Facility project under construction is another large-scale environmental protection and municipal infrastructure project that China Energy Engineering Group Shanxi Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. is involved in Singapore.
With a total investment of 1.09 billion US dollars, the project covers an area of 180,000 square meters, with a maximum height of 80 meters, and a single waste processing capacity of 900 tons, making it the largest project in terms of single incineration waste capacity.
The Integrated Waste Management Facility project transforms waste into energy. Currently, two 65,000 kWh units generate 130,000 kWh of electricity per hour, which can meet the needs of 200,000 households. It is estimated that the project will be completed and put into operation by the end of 2024, aiming to achieve the recycling and reduction of local domestic waste in Singapore, and paving the way for green development through incineration waste power generation.
Currently, Chinese companies are actively participating in global green project construction. A series of green projects invested and built by CEEC in Singapore will help reduce carbon emissions locally, improve the efficiency of renewable energy use, and contribute to sustainable development.
