In an initiative to promote clean energy, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune 500 Maharatna Energy Company, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority and Municipal Corporations of Raipur and Bhilai.

This collaboration aims to establish Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plants in Chhattisgarh, marking a major move towards reducing carbon emissions and enhancing clean energy production.

The agreement, signed in the presence of Chhattisgarh's Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, outlines BPCL's commitment to invest around Rs 100 crore in each city to create state-of-the-art CBG plants. These facilities are designed to process 100-150 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day, converting it into sustainable biofuel.

This initiative is not just about cleaner energy; it's also about fostering a circular economy. By utilizing 200-250 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste daily, these plants will produce biofuel and generate organic fertilizer as a byproduct, supporting organic farming and agricultural sustainability in the state.

Moreover, the establishment of the CBG plants is expected to create approximately 60,000 man-days of employment annually, directly and indirectly, contributing significantly to the region's economic development.

The project is also projected to generate GST revenue of about Rs 45 lakh per year for the state, once operational at full capacity.

BPCL's venture into CBG production in Chhattisgarh is a testament to its dedication towards adopting sustainable energy solutions. This effort aligns with the company's vision to become a Net Zero Energy Company by 2040, emphasising its commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.

This initiative is a step forward in Bharat Petroleum's journey towards energizing lives and fostering a cleaner, greener future for all.
