EMC-proof switches for DIN rails

Hirschmann Automation and Control GmbH, Neckartenzlingen, presents the new manageable switches of the RSR family. These switches which are offered in a Fast (RSR 20) and a Gigabit Ethernet version (RSR 30) are designed for extremely high demands with regard to shock and vibration resistance as well as electromagnetic compatibility. They also have a compact metal housing (125x140x120 mm / WxHxD) and can be mounted both on DIN rails and on the wall. Other features include a temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees Celsius and a power supply with 16.8 – 60 V (DC) or 48 – 320 V (DC) or 90 – 265 V (AC). For protection against condensation the circuit boards can be coated with a special protective lacquer (conformal coating) if desired. This makes the devices specially suitable for using in ambient conditions with high electromagnetic and mechanical stress such as in substations or on railway lines.

The switches which can be set up individually in different versions by the modular principle have up to nine Fast Ethernet ports (100 BASE-TX/FX) and a maximum of three Gigabit Uplinks (1000 BASE-TX). Since the Uplinks are designed as Combo-Ports, they can also be equipped with SFP-Fiber modules (1000 BASE-FX/SX/LX/LH).
Redundancy methods such as Fast HIPER Ring, Rapid Spanning Tree and Link Aggregation ensure a high network availability. The security mechanisms include access control in accordance with IEEE 802.1x , IP and MAC port security as well as SNMP v3 and SSH.
The fan-less cooling and an optional redundant power supply also contribute to the high operational reliability. The status of the switch can be picked up by distributed signal contacts. Detailed information can be displayed by a Web browser. Another central management function is offered by the integrated SNMP interface which enables the use of a network management software for example.
