No White Christmas in the cards for the UK

Press release from: WeatherOnline Limited

Expect dry conditions with milder west and a cooler east

Predicting this years Christmas weather has really thrown up some conundrums.

A large area of high pressure will be close to the UK, perhaps situated over Scandinavia. Lower pressure is going to be to the west of Ireland, and the combination of these two features will be to bringa south to southeasterly wind flow through the UK and Ireland.

WeatherOnline forecasters think that there will be a east-west divide throughout the British Isles with much of eastern Scotland, northern England, the Midlands, East Anglia and southern England experiencing dry albeit rather chilly weather. It is likely to be quite cloudy with colder temperatures around 3 to 6C. However, for more western locations such as western Scotland, Wales, western England and Ireland, the winds will be from a southerly direction with milder temperatures.
Some rain should be expected in western Ireland as fronts try to push east, but are blocked by the high pressure to the east.

After Christmas and before New Year that low pressuremay well break through. This will bring more unsettled conditions to most areas, together with strong winds. As this takes place the colder air to the east will be cleared away and there is a chance, for at least short time, for wintry conditions. It won't last long though before milder air takes over. By early in the New Yearpressure will be rising in the south, bringing somedrier conditions for southern Ireland, south Wales and southern England.
