It provides the required alkalinity to the water soluble grinding fluids to protect against metal rusting. Iron does not oxidize in alkaline conditions and it prohibits rusting. Diethanolamine is also used as a catalyst to provide stability in the manufacturing process of flexible as well as rigid polyurethane foams.
