What is Calcined Anthracite?

Calcined anthracite is a raw anthracite that is used as a filler in the manufacturing of cathode blocks, carbon electrodes, ramming and electrode paste, and other carbon products. It is produced by annealing anthracite coal in a horizontal gas or electric furnace at a high temperature. It removes residual volatile organic compounds and reduces the electrical resistivity property of the material. It is also used as an alternative to calcined oil coke in the manufacturing of ductile and grey irons. As a result, calcined anthracite is extensively used as a recarburiser in the blast and ladle furnaces for producing tamping paste and carbon blocks.
