US Department of State Announces H1B Visa Renewal Pilot Program Launching in January 2024
According to the information obtained from the Department of State, the online applications for visa renewal will begin on January 29, 2023, accompanied by a non-refundable fee of $250. This pilot program is limited to individuals holding H-1B visas issued from February 1, 2021, to September 30, 2021, by Mission India, or between January 1, 2020, and April 1, 2023, by Mission Canada. The Department believes that this action will amplify its direct impact on U.S. industry partners, as it is crucial for employees who have to travel abroad for work, potentially facing challenges in an immediate return if their visas expire.
To manage the volume of applications, the Department has planned to allocate 2,000 application slots for H-1B visas issued by Mission Canada and 2,000 slots for those issued by Mission India. The applicants may have to provide their passports and other required documents for verification, which, the Department assures, will be returned along with the newly issued visas.
In short, the US Department's decision to launch a pilot program for the renewal of H1B visas is a piece of evidence of their commitment to take good care of the foreign worker's needs as well.
