Press release from: mydaytrip.com

Berlin, December 2007 - Mydaytrip.com, the first integrated travel community of its kind, has opened its doors to the global traveller.

The site, whose aim is to provide travellers with information and links regarding events, accommodation, and services throughout the world, is a platform for travellers to experience their destination like a local. It is a travel community where members can create profiles, upload pictures, write reviews, collect content, and construct their own 'daytrip'. Daytrips can be shared online between members of this travel community as well as linked with existing online communities, such as Facebook, or Myspace. These trips can also be e-mailed, printed, or exported directly to the member’s mobile device, complete with location information, ratings and maps.

The site is based around three ideas: plan, meet and share. Under these three headings, site users are able to utilise a variety of original and useful functions which combine all the benefits of an online community with the information and tips of a travel site.

Under 'plan', users can create their daytrips from the detailed and unbiased information listed by other users. 'Meet' is an area for like-minded travellers to come together and network, a worldwide communication centre for members, complete with inbox and comment board. The section includes member profiles, diaries and photo albums and allows users to find out which users are, and will be, in their home town. In 'Share' members are given the opportunity to express their thoughts about life on the road, as well as find travel tips, rideshares or items for sale. The Mydaytrip Open not only hosts a communication forum for travellers, it is also aims to become a reputable launch pad for aspiring travel writers and photographers to submit their work for publishing. The Mydaytrip Emporium is a one-stop shop for travellers to find exactly what they’re looking for - from couches to surf to tents for sale - it is a classified section tailored specifically to fit the needs of the traveller.

Inspired by the desire to spend less time planning, and more time experiencing travel, co-founder Frank Hinrichs believes that the growth in consumer trust for online content reflects Mydaytrip.com’s service mission. The modern traveller is streamlined. Bulky travel guides have become impractical in these days of cut-priced airfares and baggage restrictions. Waking up in a new city is no longer a lengthy process of elimination.

Daytrippers instantly find facts, sights, events, and up-to-date ‘real’ recommendations that allow travellers to experience their destination as global-locals. In 5 minutes at the breakfast table a traveller will have a day ahead of them that they want.

Frank Hinrichs says that the idea for MydayTrip.com was born from surprise.
“Surprise that the evolution of web 2.0, travelling communities and online guides hadn’t produced a hub of up-to-date recommendations from real experiences. On a two day trip in Barcelona searching for a new hostel site, Andreas Lange (co founder) and I arrived from different origins, with no itinerary, and went online to get tips on places to eat, places to stay, and places to sightsee. We couldn’t easily find an online cross-over of traveller blogs and location recommendations that were unbiased. Tips that were derived locally from real experiences and not critques from invited publication writers.”
