Abuja, Nigeria, 29.10.2023: During the state visit of Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Nigeria, hosted be Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu the Nigerian Ministry of Solid Mineral Development through its Solid Minerals Development Fund ("SMDF") signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding with GeoScan GmbH (www.geoscan.world) of Berlin, Germany, in the presence of Nigerian Mining Minister Oladele Alake Henry. Subject is the most modern exploration of minerals for Nigeria.
Building on the results of several highly successful exploration programmes, GeoScan will extend both area and type of minerals. First focus will be on lithium for which GeoScan has already explored a vast area of more than 4000km² and located 15 world class sites for lithium mines with its fast, reliable and sustainable gScan method in the "Rahama" project, for which a separate MoU was signed in parallel.
This programme will establish Nigeria as a valuable and reliable partner for supply security and the environmental transformation of Germany and the EU.
Dr. Oladele Alake Henry, Honourable Minister of Solid Mineral Development of Nigeria praised the project as "This signing shows the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development's desire to work with like-minded partners such as GeoScan to attract and leverage new technologies to catalyse exploration and integrate supply chains. Nigeria is a credible partner for Germany's energy transition goals, and together, we can achieve the net-zero goals. This collaboration aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Ministry's Transformation Agenda of leveraging the mining sector to catalyse economic growth, competitiveness and job creation."
Hajia Fatima Umaru Shinkafi, Executive Secretary/CEO of SMDF stated: "We are very pleased to connect with GeoScan with their most modern exploration technology for the extension of our work."
Oliver Haeggberg, CEO of GeoScan, commented "We are proud to contribute to bringing Nigeria and Germany closer together and creating sustainable growth for all".

Background:
To fight climate-change and help the world electrify, batteries are a main factor. Battery minerals such as Lithium, Manganese, Copper, Nickel or Cobalt are of critical importance. They need to come from responsible, sustainable and reliable sources.
Nigeria is known as a mineral-rich country, yet large parts of the country are not explored with modern methods and thus much of its mineral wealth may yet be unknown. These areas are too large to explore with conventional methods due to the high cost, long duration and environmental damage of methods such as wide drilling campaigns or large-scale seismic studies.
GeoScan GmbH of Berlin, Germany, has developed, deployed and is successfully using a method for fully Sustainable Exploration with no CO2 footprint and zero impact on environment or wildlife. Furthermore, it greatly reduces the need for drilling or excavation, thus further reducing impact in the later stages. GeoScan's method is particularly well suited for exploring large areas quickly and at low cost.
Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF),
SMDF is an agency established under the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development (MMSD), in accordance with the Nigeria's Minerals and Mining Act 2007 and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria having its head office in Abuja, Nigeria. Hajia Fatima Umaru Shinkafi, Executive Secretary/CEO.
GeoScan GmbH
GeoScan specializes in identifying and quantifying ground resources from satellite images. Unlike conventional remote sensing, its algorithms "read" subtle patterns caused by the earth's own vibrations, sometimes called "The Hum of the Earth". GeoScan has developed the methods and algorithms to recognize and process those patterns from high quality satellite images detecting resources down to a depth of 10,000m. This proprietary solution is called gScantm.
GeoScan have successfully conducted approximately 100 projects for clients from the industry and governments around the world in countries such as Oman, Turkey, Congo (DRC), USA, Canada and many others with an outstanding success rate which is considerably above that of conventional methods. gScan exploration is much cheaper, 2 to 3 times faster, more reliable and has zero environmental impact and no carbon footprint, making it especially suitable for large areas.
GeoScan has several other activities, offices and subsidiaries in Nigeria and other African countries.
