New Normal of Safe Handwashing in UP in Schools, Child care and Health Centers

HappyTap Hygiene Solutions Pvt Ltd. & Peoples WASH Solution LLP India set up Demonstration Sites showcasing the New Normal of safe handwashing with soap in Public Health Centres, Schools and Anganwadi centers in Uttar Pradesh.
While handwashing with soap and water is a very basic activity to stop germ transmission it is often taken for granted. This year in the days leading up to Global Handwashing Day- October 15, 2023 HappyTap Hygiene Solutions and People's WASH Solutions LLP has been working tirelessly to spread the message of safe handwashing throughout Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand.
People's WASH Solutions LLP has been working with Aga Khan Foundation in Bahraich, and Population Services International India and Vatsalya NGO in Lucknow to equip anganwadi centers, schools and healthcare facilities with prefabricated, built to scale handwashing stations to bring clean hands within reach.
In accordance with this year's Global Handwashing Day theme, Clean hands are within reach- People's WASH Solution LLP, HappyTap Hygiene Solutions, Aga Khan Foundation, Population Services India and Vatsalya NGO wanted to address the problem of lack of handwashing facilities in Anganwadi centers, Schools and Healthcare facilities.
Sustainable Development Goal 6 talks about quality education , health and WASH, however this can not happen if children keep falling sick due to contaminated water or lack of handwashing. According to recent studies about 75% of absenteeism in schools is caused by diseases preventable by handwashing. Moreover, even today one of the biggest killers of children under the age of 5 is diarrhea and pneumonia, both these diseases are preventable by washing hands at all critical moments.
However, due to lack of clean, functional and easily accessible handwashing facilities, these problems remain. The next generation portable handwashing stations address this very problem- without the need for permissions, plumbing, construction, labor or time- these can be quickly set up by anyone over the age of 6, acting as a physical reminder to wash hands for children and adults alike.
By deploying Next Generation Portable Handwashing Stations, we aim to turn the tide against preventable illnesses, reinforcing the power of clean hands in safeguarding our communities. Together, let's make handwashing a habit, not a luxury, for a healthier Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Uttarakhand.
