PPP USA Rally against Musharraf in Los Angeles

Los Angeles November 11, 2007: Pakistan Peoples Party California Chapter organized a rally against the imposition of Emergency (Martial Law) by General Pervez Musharraf on Saturday 10th of 2007 between 2pm and 5pm in front of Pakistan Consulate locates at Wilshire Blvd Los Angeles. More then 200 participated to show their concern.

Many active community members, women and youth attended this event. The participants were full of emotions and showed their serious concern at the declaration of Emergency (Martial Law), suspension of constitution, press censorship and removal of judiciary.

They also condemned the arrest, police batons and tear gas attacks on lawyers, judges, human rights activist and members of political parties. Participants condemned the blackout of independent media and draconian laws against the media. They demanded from General Musharraf that:

1. Democracy must be restored; you retire as army commander, announce the election date, and conduct fair and transparent elections under the foreign observers.
2. Chief Justice and other expelled judges be restored as they were on November 3rd, and hand picked judges be retired or pushed out from our legal system.
3. End State of Emergency, restore constitution, and restore independence of judiciary.
4. All political prisoners must be released, frivolous litigation on politicians be withdrawn, and ban on political parties be lifted.
5. Curbs and actions against media must go and they should be allowed to express the views of people without censorship.
6. Restore the rule of law; create jobs, end poverty, provide basic medical access to citizens of Pakistan, free education, and end of nepotism.
