The 2nd Big Island Book Fest: Uniting 50 Islands Authors in a Literary Extravaganza
Venue of The Big Island Book Fest
Taking place on Saturday, October 14th, from 10 am to 4 pm, on the upper floor of the Florence Filberg Centre, located at 411 Anderton Ave, Courtenay, this market-style event promises an immersive experience for all attendees. From fantasy and thriller to true life, photography, and children's literature, patrons will have the chance to meet authors and delve into both new and familiar genres.
J P Bailey, the visionary founder, and director of this event, conceived it as a platform to showcase the remarkable array of talent residing on these islands while fostering connections between writers and readers. Guests are encouraged to engage directly with authors, acquire signed copies of their books, and explore additional offerings like art cards and stickers.
For young readers, the Big Island Book Fest offers a special treat with complimentary face painting from noon to three o'clock. Throughout the day, children's authors will captivate their audience with engaging readings. Adding an extra touch of merriment, a Scottish clown is poised to spread laughter and cheer.
Live music and author readings will provide a dynamic backdrop to the festivities. Authors prepare for a costumed party and guests are encouraged to share their creative spirit by dressing up. The intricate paper creations of renowned artist Ray Bartl will round out the day, displaying the boundless possibilities of artistic expression.
Entry to the Big Island Book Fest is by donation, ensuring accessibility for all. With books catering to every taste, there is something for everyone. In the spirit of community giving, proceeds from the event's canteen will be channeled directly to Comox Valley charities, making this a celebration with a purpose.
