The Government's Car-Free Sunday Project is Meant to Promote Health and Protect the Environment
Secular governments have embraced Rome's Sunday worship. Sunday is really being promoted as the key to saving the environment. This is not a conspiracy theory. Governments have actually bought into the idea that if Sunday is respected, our planet will be saved from the catastrophic and detrimental effects of the so-called climate change crisis. Everyone is getting on board. Sunday for climate change was not something that was picked out of the air. This revolutionary idea comes from the heart of Laudato Si'.Makati is a community found within the metropolis area of Manila, the capital city of the Philippines. They have started an initiative called Car-Free Sunday, in which designated areas of the city are temporarily closed to motorized vehicles on Sunday. This is being done in an effort to reduce air pollution, encourage physical activity, and create a more sustainable environment.
The Philippine Star, an English-language newspaper in Manila, published the following on August 23, 2023:
• In a social media post on Aug. 18, the local government unit announced that it is bringing back its car-free Sundays at Ayala Avenue. The program, which goes beyond having traffic-free roads, will take place on Sept. 3, 10, 17, and 24, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. [1]
• "Get ready for Car-Free Sunday Morning at Ayala Avenue, Makatizens! Mark your calendars and set your alarms for an unforgettable urban experience as Ayala Avenue transforms into a car-free haven on September 3, 2023," they captioned their post. [1]
• Pedestrians can freely stroll, walk their pets, jog, skate, bike, and more without having to worry about any incoming cars and the hassle of air pollution during the said period. [1]
• Makati previously launched a car-free day in November 2012 to raise awareness of the health benefits of walking while at the same time promoting the use of non-motorized transport like bicycles as alternatives to using cars that use fossil fuels-one of the major sources of air pollution. [1]
Car-Free Sundays are becoming popular in many cities all over the world. Unfortunately, this initiative also seeks to increase public understanding of the value of Sunday rest. The underlying message is that people should take advantage of Sundays to relax and enjoy themselves. The campaign places a strong emphasis on the benefits of Sunday, rest, spending time with family, wellbeing, and environmental awareness.
Rome is going to achieve its goal with the "Sunday for Climate Change" agenda. They will bring together both the secular and religious worlds for a common cause: Sunday. Through ecological renewal, climate justice, and environmental activism, they are campaigning to turn Sunday into a fossil-free day and an energy-saving day.
Sunday will be a day of rest for spiritual renewal, a day for families, a day of rest from consumerism and shopping, a day free from carbon emissions, and a day for attending church for public worship. This is exactly the direction in which the world is heading-all thanks to Pope Francis and his encyclical on climate change. And do not imagine that the Sunday rest issue will go away. The proposal to impose Sunday in response to climate change will only intensify. Even God told us this would happen:
"It will be declared that men are offending God by the violation of the Sunday sabbath; that this sin has brought calamities which will not cease until Sunday observance shall be strictly enforced" (Great Controversy, p. 590).

Rome Stops Traffic On Ecological Sunday
Rome's "Ecological Sundays," which restrict traffic to reduce pollution, may at a first glance appear to be an environmental initiative on the surface, but they serve a deeper agenda-to condition the public to the idea of staying home and resting on Sundays. While rest is not inherently problematic, the issue lies in how this concept is being enforced-not through a voluntary means, but through civil law. By mandating Sunday rest…
