The Toulon Artist's Cottage is one of the many estate homes featured at the residential, European-styled enclave known as The Thoms Estate in beautiful Asheville, NC

The Toulon Artist's Cottage is one of the many estate homes featured at the residential, European-styled enclave known as The Thoms Estate in beautiful Asheville, NC

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Thoms Estate in Asheville experienced a successful property launch during the weekend of Oct. 13 with buyer commitments obtained for more than 20 luxury cottages and estate homes for phase one. The homes were secured during a single eight hour event on the property with about a quarter of the homes purchased by people from the Asheville area. The Thoms Estate is a residential European-inspired enclave consisting of pastoral, rolling landscapes and unique estate homes.

The Thoms Estate, located three miles from artistic and historic downtown Asheville, is a conversion of a private estate dating from 1941 into an 83 acre community consisting of 132 full-ownership homes evoking the European traditions that have inspired the town’s landmark architecture for over a century.

Nearly half of the property, 38 acres, will be enhanced to create a true “estate living” experience and will incorporate an array of carefully selected amenities throughout the community including: numerous water features, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, fields of lavender and wildflowers, a labyrinth, a secret garden, cobble stone accents, gas lanterns, and various sculptures. The estate will be a true strolling paradise with scenic walkways meandering around cascading waterfalls in a botanical park setting.

An artist village will allow residents opportunity for creative expression with periodic seminars offered from talented artisans and craftsmen from the Asheville area.

The concept is to tie together an estate feel with an appreciation for the arts, gourmet food and fine wine. All this, plus residents will enjoy a care-free lock and leave maintenance program of all grounds on the entire estate.

In an effort to honor the Thoms legacy, Smith plans to preserve several unique features on the property. The manor house, historically referred to by original owner Harold Thoms as the “dream home,” will be completely restored and used as a social gathering area as it did for so many years for his family. New features will include a wine cellar, library and state-of-the-art fitness center. Plans are also to make it available to the Asheville community for periodic art shows or other special events.

The developer’s theme for the community will be reminiscent of the European countryside with uniquely designed cluster homes in hamlets. This residential enclave features artists’ cottages, townhomes, and private estate homes from $975,000 to $2,500,000, with homesites from $350,000.
