New European Qualification Framework for “Hotel Managers” and “Restaurant Managers” developed by transnational Sector Skills Alliance

Munich, July 2015: The Responsible Skills Alliance for Sustainable Management of Small Hotels and Restaurants (RESPONS) is a Sector Skills Alliance in the HORECA sector, with 9 Partners from 7 European countries. It is co-funded by the Lifelong Learning Programme of the Euroean Commission. The project focuses on the improvement of vocational education and training at sectoral level, involvingHORECA SMEs, educational bodies and institutions as well as social partners.

After a careful and deep analysis of the key knowledge, skills and competences currently demanded from the HORECA sector in the participating countries, the partnership was able to define the European Qualifications Frameworks for managers of small hotels and managers of small restaurants, thus creating a new professional profile, covering both the traditional aspects of the provision of hotel and catering services, as well as innovative and modern methods in management and interpersonal communication. The Frameworks contribute to the professional and personal advancement of leading staff within small hotels and restaurants, building on what they have learnt in the past when developing further knowledge, skills and competences and thus improving their adaptation to European standards.
