From Tool to Innovation Engine: AXIT Paper describes Dawning of a New Age for IT in Logistics

Yesterday an instrument of data and information processing, today a pioneer of process innovations: The role of IT has changed rapidly. It has become a key factor for successful management of challenges in logistics. AXIT’s new strategy paper describes the requirements for a new IT generation in delivery chain management.

“More and more logistics companies neither can nor want to afford costly and complex IT projects anymore”, says Frauke Heistermann, member of management with the Frankenthal-based IT company AXIT. The dynamics with which market situations change demands mainly one thing from logistics companies: an extremely high degree of adaptability.

The new IT generation’s characteristic is its extremely high degree of flexibility: In a world which is constantly on the move the IT solution must be able to be adapted without restrictions, as today’s decisions may look different again tomorrow. Modern IT must allow for agility that ensures maximum freedom of action at lean budgets.

The simplicity of access to offers from the new IT generation can be compared to an IT supermarket: “Here the customers no longer buy costly individual programming but rather IT tools which they can use to assemble fully developed modules for the management of logistical processes as easily as Lego bricks. This releases an enormous innovative capacity.”

With regards to contents the basis of this paper is experience which AXIT has gained over the span of more than 15 years from implementing more than 2,500 cloud-based logistics projects on delivery chain management.
