Community Unites for Successful Earth Day Celebration at Elwood Park with Strong Youth Participation

Elwood, NY - Elwood Park came alive with the spirit of environmental stewardship on Sunday as the local community joined forces last Sunday, May 7, to celebrate Earth Day. Organized by SRLC-USA, the event saw over 75 dedicated volunteers making a tangible impact in their quest for a greener future.

Amidst the recent storm that resulted in fallen trees, the community saw an opportunity for renewal. With resilience and determination, the volunteers planted 30 saplings, symbolizing their commitment to a healthier planet. In addition, they seized the chance to sow over 3000 square feet of wildflowers along the park's border, enhancing its natural beauty while supporting local pollinators.

The Earth Day celebration at Elwood Park showcased the town's commitment to environmental preservation. Distinguished guests, including Legislator Stephanie Bontempi, Councilman Salvatore Ferro, Town Clerk Andrew P. Raia, and Director Cable Jamison were in attendance to express their support for the community's efforts. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and highlighted the Town of Huntington's dedication to fostering a sustainable future.

"The community's united efforts demonstrated the Town of Huntington's dedication to a sustainable future," said Naman Lakhani, event organizer. "We are grateful to see our community members, including the passionate youth from Spiritual Touch, taking action and creating a positive impact." Spiritual Touch, a self-improvement program for high schoolers that combines real-world skills with spiritual values, empowers young individuals to make a difference in their community.
