Political parties - in process of modernization of state and society

An international round table on the topic: “Political parties and elections: international practice and experience of Uzbekistan” was held in Tashkent. The event was organized by the Independent Institute for Monitoring the Formation of Civil Society and the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The forum brought together scientists and experts from France, Germany, the United States, the Republic of Korea, representatives of the OSCE, UNESCO, the National Democratic Institute (USA), the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (Germany), along with deputies of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, members of the Central Election Commission, representatives of research and education institutions, political parties, public organizations and others.

Some foreign participants of the roundtable were interviewed by correspondent of IA "Jahon".

Erica Breth, director of America’s National Democratic Institute office in Uzbekistan:

- Each nation has its own traditions and peculiarities, which form the basis of its political system. Uzbekistan has its own experience of democracy building. In my opinion, the main thing is to observe the order and the preservation of stability that demonstrates your country.

Making the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan status of a permanent, independent constitutional body will further strengthen the independence of the Central Executive Committee and ensuring holding of elections, without the intervention of any other public authorities.

It should be emphasized that there is significantly increased socio-political activity of parties and healthy inter-party competition in the country.

Emmanuel Dupuy, President of the Institute for Prospective and Security Studies in Europe (France):

- Efforts applied in your country to improve political culture of the electorate, level of public awareness about the campaign and electoral legislation, strengthening the role of public institutions in education are important elements of democratic development.

Current event provided an opportunity to delve deeper into the political processes taking place in Uzbekistan, to get acquainted with foreign experience to improve the electoral system, political parties participating in the elections, use of modern information and communication technologies in the course of the campaign.

- First of all, I want to highlight the importance of the recent changes and additions made to the electoral legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which are aimed to create equal conditions for candidates, political parties during the election campaign and ensure truly democratic, open, free and transparent elections.
