New Survey Data: 85 Percent Employed Respondents Considering Quitting in Six Months
LaSalle Network, a national staffing, recruiting and culture firm, publishes its "2023 Talent Index: Why Even Your Happiest People are Considering Leaving."The report includes original data collected from a survey to more than 1,700 employed professionals across the U.S. in October 2022, and again in January 2023, to gauge satisfaction levels and understand what keeps employees at their current companies, and what is leading them to quit.
In an average of both surveys, 85 percent of respondents reported they would consider leaving their job in the next six months. However, interestingly when asked about satisfaction levels, across the board the data was higher than expected. An apparent trend the data showed was while professionals are seemingly satisfied, they still have one foot out the door.
Further, the data shows that 39 percent of managers are dissatisfied in their roles, compared to only 29 percent of staff-level employees. This is a very important factor for companies to pay attention to in 2023 as staff retention efforts will lose impact if managers are disengaged.
Highlight of the findings:
Percent of respondents who stated they were either satisfied, or very satisfied within the following areas:
DEI: 48 percent
Sense of Belonging: 47 percent
Benefits: 45 percent
Salary: 44 percent
Training and Development: 41 percent
Rise in Satisfaction Levels for Career Path: When LaSalle Network conducted this survey again in January 2023, the number of respondents who stated they were satisfied with their career path grew by nearly 20 percent.
This can be attributed to many conversations and compensation changes that take place at the end of a calendar year, whether it's goal-planning for the year ahead or bonuses and raises that are given.
Satisfaction Based on Quitting Intentions: LaSalle Network analyzed data comparing satisfaction sentiments between those with no plans to quit, and those who are considering quitting in the next six months. The following three areas were ranked high by respondents who would not consider leaving, and ranked low by those planning to leave.
- Career Path
- Training and Development
- Sense of Belonging
