Friction Modifier Additives Market

Friction Modifier Additives Market

Global Friction Modifier Additives Market Study Analysis

The Friction Modifier Additives Market is projected to register a CAGR of 5.3% by 2026. Friction modifier additives are used in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, and industrial manufacturing. These additives help reduce the wear and tear of mechanical parts, create smoother surfaces and keep surfaces clean.

Polar molecules known as friction modifier additives are added to lubricants with the goal of reducing light surface contacts, such as sliding and rolling, that could happen in a particular machine design. Boundary lubrication additives are another name for friction modifiers.

For the purpose of reducing friction, esters, fatty acids (both natural and manufactured), and some solid substances like graphite and molybdenum disulfide are utilised. These materials' molecules have an oil-soluble end and a polar end (head) (tail). The polar end of the molecule locates a metal surface and attaches itself after being put to use. Each molecule would be stacked vertically next to the other if you could see the orientation of the molecules on the surface, which would resemble carpet fibers.

These molecules provide a cushioning effect when one of the coated surfaces connects with another coated surface, as long as the frictional contact is light.  If the contact is heavy, then the molecules are brushed off, eliminating any potential benefit of the friction modifier additive.

All in all, friction modifier additives affect the frictional properties between two rubbing surfaces and thus preventing scoring, reduce wear and noise, and also helps in preventing micro pitting in industrial gear lubricants.
