Brian Gordon Joins Sanders Thaler Viola & Katz, LLP as State and Local Tax Director

JERICHO, NY — Sanders Thaler Viola & Katz, LLP has announced that Brian Gordon, CPA has joined the firm as a State and Local Tax (SALT) Director, as of March 1.

Mr. Gordon has more than 30 years experience with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. His specialty has been residency and, while with the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance, he was involved in many high-profile residency audits. His most recent position was a District Audit Manager for both Manhattan and Brooklyn, where he focused his expertise and experience on significant SALT issues, including Income Tax, Pass Through Entities, Corporation Tax, Sales Tax, and Residency matters.

In addition to his many accomplishments, while working for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, Mr. Gordon has participated in lectures on a wide array of tax topics. He is currently a member of the NYSSCPA and New York State Multistate and Local Tax Committee. He has written several articles on SALT issues, most recently about a case based on statutory residency and the definition of “maintaining” a permanent place of abode. Many tax professionals have been following a particular case through the various levels of the New York State court system due to its implications.
