Chelating agent has high affinity for positively charged nutrients and solubilize nutrients by enhancing availability & uptake of nutrients. Chelated micronutrients has proved to be highly effective in increasing quality and crop yield. Chelated formulas use protein molecules like chain of amino acids. Cilantro is the best natural chelating agent. Due to deficiency of micronutrient in soil there is need for agricultural chelates. Micronutrients are organic fertilizers which are required for plant growth, development process like protein synthesis, flowering and fruiting of plants. Commercially prepared iron-EDTA fertilizer contains micronutrients. Chelating helps in reducing toxic effect of metals. Chelated iron, copper, manganese and zinc are best way in providing micronutrients to crops under alkaline conditions. Chelating agents helps in keeping metal soluble in soil which are then taken up by plants with metals. Chelate is composed of metal ion and chelating agent is a substance in which molecules form several bonds to single metal ion. Ethylenediamine is example of chelating agent.
