Medicare Drug Plan Comparison Tool Helps Seniors Save

The typical senior who switches their Medicare drug plan coverage saves between $500 and $700 yearly reports the American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance (AAMSI).

Medicare Open Enrollment currently underway allows millions of Medicare beneficiaries to find the best drug plan coverage for the coming year. According to Jesse Slome, director of the Medicare-focused organization, a majority of seniors do not take advantage of the opportunity to review and lock in a potentially better plan for the coming year.

"Prescription drug plans typically change each January and those changes can mean you'll pay more in 2023," says Slome. "Medicare mandates that plans give you the chance to review changes and, if you want, find a drug plan that will save you money, get better coverage or both."

Those who take advantage of the opportunity can easily save significant dollars in 2023, the Association director notes. The organization reports that average savings among those who switched plans last year amounted to between $500 and $700.

The American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance makes available access to a free online drug plan comparison tool. "Consumers do not have to enter any personal information other than their Zip Code to use the tool," Slome adds. "It's completely private and compares over 4,700 plans to find the best one in your area."

Slome advises that entering information on the various prescription drugs you take will yield the best 2023 price comparison.
