Imperato Calls It Again: Chinese Military Infiltrate Pentagon Network

Washington D.C. – September 6, 2007 - Just three months ago, according to American officials, the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) hacked into the Pentagon Computer Network and reached a computer system serving the office of Robert Gates, the Secretary of Defense.

The United States and its telecommunications infrastructure has long been thought of as secure and protected from outside invaders. However, with the global growth of IT sophistication along with US purchasing of foreign made equipment, the United States information network may be under siege.
The Pentagon released to the media that a computer system serving Defense Secretary Robert Gates was shut down in June. The Pentagon did not release other information regarding the security attack.

The Chinese PLA regularly monitors US military and Department of Defense (DoD) networks – and the Pentagon has been assumed to scan Chinese Networks on an ongoing basis – but US officials said the infiltration in June of Pentagon systems brought to light new threats because China had proven that it could disturb and access US systems at crucial times.

Prior to that, 2008 Presidential Candidate Daniel Imperato brought up the issue of American security and foreign intrusion into our telecommunications and computer systems.
Back in September of 2006 Imperato called out for the United States to evaluate the Alcatel - Lucent Technologies merger in light of potential security breeches.
"Did you ever think that there are third parties behind this deal? We have complained about Russia, blocked China from the UNOCAL acquisition, and the Arabs from the Dubai Ports deal. But did the administration ever think that the French are in the front of third parties that are attacking our telecommunications manufacturing capabilities enabling foreign parties to siphon the patents and patent applications? Did anyone look to see if foreign entities are trying to reproduce products, based upon the ownership of a US company overseas, allowing them to include bugging, tracking, and listening devices causing breeches of security, risking national interest, and the violation of privacy for the citizens of the USA?

When asked to comment specifically on the threat of foreign intruders, Daniel Imperato stated the following regarding the security breech, "Our telecommunications and network infrastructure is no longer safe and secure. All of our technology has been leaked and distributed all over the world and the foreign made equipment that we use to access our data and information is being hacked by the very same foreign countries that made them."

Imperato went on to state that, "It's a shame. While the administration was so intent on spying on people's homes, they forgot that other governments were spying on them. I hope that George W. Bush and Secretary Condoleezza Rice can finally address the issue after I have been calling out for over one year." Imperato said that the problem was not only the problem of the United States but of the world at large.

"Don't be surprised to see other countries hacked by China. They are accumulating resources, power, and information. In fact I wrote a film about the Chinese infecting the world's computer chips. Now what was once fiction may be turning into reality."
Recently Germany and its Prime Minister, Angela Merkel addressed Chinese infiltration of German government computer systems with China's premier, Wen Jiaboa, during her visit to Beijing. The Chinese Foreign Ministry's official stance is that they oppose "any criminal acts undermining computer systems, including hacking."
George W.  Bush, US president, is due to meet Hu Jintao, China's president, on today in Australia prior to the APEC summit.

Imperato concluded his interview by saying, "I call on President Bush to step up and be a leader. He has the opportunity at the end of his term to help our nation. He must finally deal with the Chinese with both strength and patience. He must learn the cultures of the people that he is dealing with which is why I offer myself to help him. My mission is to save this great country, but we cannot do so if we are not allocating ample resources towards information security and dealing with countries in an undiplomatic manner."
