Summerisle Songs releases The Wicker Man – The Complete Piano Songbook

Available for the first time ever, Summerisle Songs is releasing a songbook containing all of Paul Giovanni's memorable and haunting score for the chilling cult classic The Wicker Man, starring Christopher Lee, Britt Ekland and Edward Woodward.

The 40th Anniversary of the release of Robin Hardy's movie "The Wicker Man" is being celebrated with not only a Blu-Ray and cinema release of a brand new "final cut" version of the film, but also by the release of a piano songbook in which, for the first time, all the music and songs from the film are published, specially arranged for Piano, Voice and Guitar. This beautiful souvenir album also contains stills from the film, and other unique material.

The Wicker Man became a cult classic, and Paul Giovanni's music was as much a part of that cult following as the film itself. Gary Carpenter, who was Associate Musical Director on the film, acted as a consultant on this project, and writes an illuminating preface to the book.

The music is a fascinating mix of folk and rock-influenced material, weaving traditional folk tunes and poems into a unique and compelling soundtrack.

The authenticity of the transcriptions has been informed by much research, which unearthed original manuscripts from the recording sessions and a poem celebrating Paul Giovanni’s life and work by American playwright John MacNicholas, both of which are published here for the first time. Giovanni was a greatly revered artist, working in many spheres including acting, theatre directing, writing plays, singing and composing, until his untimely death in 1990.

The Songbook is being released on 27th September 2013.

Published by Summerisle Songs, a collaboration between Camden Music and composer-arranger Christopher Hussey, formed specifically for this project.

Christopher Hussey is a talented young arranger/composer from the UK. He is much in demand as one of the UK’s most prolific arrangers, having published over 1800 sheet music and audio transcriptions for Novello, Chester Music, Faber and A & C Black. His arrangements include big band scores of the songs of the Ratpack, transcriptions of the Nigel Kennedy Quintet, band arrangements for Aled Jones, a concert suite of the music from the Oscar-winning film score from ‘Atonement’ for composer Dario Marianelli, and numerous choral pop arrangements for Novello.
