Man is God but lacks self-realisation: 'You Are God' book by Shashi Verma

A recently released book by Shashi Verma, You Are God – The Bhagavad Gita as never before, provides the answer to man’s eternal quest, “Who am I?” and “Who is God?” It clearly says that man is himself God but does not have the self realization that he is God. The author explains that man can free himself from ageing and death and attain everlasting life in the same physical form by realising that s/he is God, not ‘I’ or man/woman. He further explains that the all-pervading God is Word or Wisdom – the consciousness of sameness towards all beings that all are God. A person who becomes same to all beings realizing that all are God will have attained God. These assertions have been made by Verma on the basis of the knowledge and wisdom of God written in the Bhagavad Gita, a 5,000-year-old Indian scripture that contains the teachings of Lord Krishna.

The knowledge of overcoming death and attaining everlasting life was imparted by Jesus Christ as well. His words are lying unexplored in the Bible. “According to both the prophets,” says Verma, “death comes to all beings due to sin. They commit a sin when they hate anyone since all beings are God. A person who does not hate any being and is the same to good and evil both, realising that all are God, will be freed from death and attain everlasting life. The wisdom of God will also cure mental stress and the physical diseases of man and s/he will attain eternal peace and happiness.”

The wisdom of the ancient science of Yog that enables mankind to be the same towards all has been highlighted in the Gita. Verma elaborates that Yog does not consist of performing or not performing any action, nor does it require abstinence from the enjoyment of any sense object. A person does not have to change his lifestyle and actions to practise Yog. He only has to change his thoughts as per the wisdom of God. He has to think that God (not I) is performing all actions, enjoying the sense objects and experiencing the joys and sorrows. This will free him from the ego and give him self-realisation that he is God, not ‘I’ and so are al other beings. This God-like sameness towards all beings will free him from death and give him everlasting life.

Verma has diligently studied the wisdom contained in the Gita and the Bible. He recently travelled to the United States and gave numerous talks there. Quoting the Bible, he observes that death entered into the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Regarding the things and men as good and evil is sin since all things and men have been created by God. Death passed on to all men since all of them started eating the forbidden fruit by perceiving things and men as good and evil.

A chartered accountant by profession, Verma was initiated into his study of the scriptures by an enlightened person, Shihn Diljit, who had received the understanding of these holy books in the form of a divine light that appeared before him 25 years ago. He then went on to read the scriptures and found that the same wisdom of God was written in all these holy books. And when Verma found that the wisdom given by Shihn Diljit coincided with the words of God, he took up the study of the Bhagavad Gita. He started writing a book on the Gita in 2000; it took six years to complete.

Shashi Verma says the time has come for the world to enter a new age, which will commence from the year 2012, when the earth completes its shift to a higher frequency, as predicted by many scholars. “The new age will come,” he reiterates, “when people understand and follow the words of God written in the scriptures, as explained in You Are God. In the new age mankind will attain freedom from sorrow, disease, ageing and death and will live on the earth in peace, harmony and oneness, having realised that all beings are God.”
