UPO 1ST ANNUAL SENIOR HOUSING FAIR TO ADDRESS THE CONCERNS OF FAIR & AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR RENTERS AND HOME OWNERS
Washington, DC – With so many housing issues that can affect a senior citizen, UPO will be hosting their 1st Annual Senior Housing Fair to address the concern of housing for senior citizens. The UPO Housing Services unit provides counseling and referrals to senior homeowners and renters. The housing fair will be Thursday, September 26, 20013 from 10 am – 3 pm at the UPO Petey Green Center located at 2907 Martin Luther King Ave SE, Washington, DC.
Representatives from government and non-profit agencies will be on hand to assist senior citizens who are DC residents with addressing their housing issues. One major issue that will be addressed is the concerns over tax lien sales of senior citizens homes. UPO President and CEO, Dana Jones, drafted a letter to Mayor Vincent Gray and Councilmember Jack Evans expressing concern about the tax lien sale process and its impact on seniors. At the senior housing fair information on the latest developments to reform the system will be available.
Some of this year’s participants include: Office on Aging, District Department of Environment, Neighborhood Legal Services, Bank on DC, DC Department of Housing and Community Development, and many more.
Elderly DC residents, their families and caregivers are invited. Lunch will be provided for those who RSVP to (202)562-3800. For further information, contact Nathaniel Murrell at 202-562-3800.
