Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos Returns to Find the World’s Best Spanish Speaking Lyricists

One of the most original freestyle rap battles in the world –Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos—will host U.S. qualifying competitions in New York this September to definitively crown the country’s best Latin freestyle MC. Last year’s competition brought down the house. Nearly 100 emcees registered for the battle but only one would walk away with the crown and the title of “El Mejor.” Eight hundred fans packed Show Nightclub to witness Sami Cultura from Los Angeles dominate the mic and walk away with props and a ticket to Columbia to compete for the international title.

This year, the Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos U.S. qualifier turns up the heat by hosting an extended competition that spans two days. Round one will be held at Ibiza Nightclub in the Bronx, New York on September 9 and is open to freestyle lyricists nationwide who think they have what it takes to be called “el mejor.” The top 8 emcees from this competition will advance to the final round of the U.S. competition which will be held in New York on September 23.

HOW IT WORKS

During each battle, the "Gallo" (term used to identify the competitors) has exactly one minute to demonstrate his ability before his opponent. A panel of respected judges from within the Hip Hop community will decide who’s got the skills to advance. The U.S. champion will win an all expense paid trip to Venezuela to battle in the international competition on October 27, 2007 alongside 15 MCs from other Spanish/Castilian speaking countries. In the end, one MC will stand apart and be crowned “Gallo Mayor.”

The Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos is the first ever international MC competition to bring together the top Latin freestyle lyricists from around the world to decide “quien es el mejor” (who is the best). Last year,

Rayden, the lyricist from Spain won the 2006 international championship in Columbia and will return to defend his title in Venezuela this year. MC Frescolate from Argentina was the first to capture a Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos championship during the 2005 competition in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Created and produced by Red Bull Energy Drink as a platform for hundreds of aspiring Hip Hop stars to express their art, in an original and uncensored way, Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos highlights the uniqueness of Latin Hip Hop and distinguishes its style independent of North American and European Hip Hop.
