Press release from: Ketterer Kunst

/ PR Agency: Ketterer Kunst

Berlin, 28 August 2007 (kk) - Green toadstools, blue girls, genies in bottles and white rabbits are motifs that occur in the work of Lambert Maria Wintersberger. Until 10 October, Ketterer Kunst are showing about 20 works by the Munich artist, who was exhibiting alongside Gerhard Richter as early as the 1960s, in the Berlin-Charlottenburg showrooms. Both the Berlin Nationalgalerie and the Düsseldorf Kunstmuseum own works of Wintersberger's.
Lambert Maria Wintersberger began his career in 1958, working as a decorator, church and stained-glass painter. In 1961 he attended the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence, finishing his studies there three years later. Until 1968 he freelanced in Berlin, where he shared a flat with Markus Lüpertz. Together with him, Karl Horst Hödicke, Peter Sorge and others, Wintersberger co-founded the Artist Self-help Gallery at 35 Großgörschen, in rooms that once belonged to a coffin factory.
Awarded the Burda Prize in 1968, Wintersberger received the Painting Prize at the 6th Youth Biennale in Paris in 1969. Two years later, he took part in the 11th São Paulo Biennale before continuing his work until 1972 in the US, where he went from one success to the next. From 1974 until 1977 Wintersberger taught at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, whose director at that time was Norbert Kricke. During that stint, Wintersberger was a member of the Institutes of Higher Learning Senate for six months along with Gerhard Richter.
The 1980s and 1990s saw important exhibitions of Wintersberger's work at venues such as the Munich Haus der Kunst and he was the recipient of prizes, among others from the Centre Européen d'Actions Artistiques Contemporaines in Strasbourg. Since 1985 the artist has been living in Walbourg, Alsace-Lorraine. He is one of the most important German figurative painters of his generation. One focus of his work is investigating the nature of Man in the context of society, nature and myth.
The exhibition, at which the works on view are for sale, can be viewed at Ketterer Kunst, 70 Fasanenstrasse, Berlin. The opening hours are Monday through Friday from 11 am to 7 pm and Sa from 11 am to 4 pm. On 6 September 2007, the artist will be present in person at the vernissage
> from 7 pm to 9 pm. Prices for these works, which are in large formats,
range from € 5300 to € 22 500. All works can be viewed in pdf-format at www.kettererkunst.com/calendar/calendar.shtml. For more information, please call +49-(0)30-88675-363 or visit www.kettererkunst.com.
