LAUNCH OF HOOPSAID: A PRO-CELEBRITY BASKETBALL CHARITY EVENT ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH.

SportsTraider presents the launch of HoopsAid, a first of its kind Pro-Celebrity Basketball charity event taking place at the newly opened Copper Box Arena in the Olympic Park on Sunday, September 15th at 1pm (celebrity arrivals at 12pm).

The event, was conceived and designed specifically by its founder, BBC Unsung Hero Sports Personality of the Year 2010 Winner Lance Haggith, to drive the Olympic and Paralympic legacy at grassroots level and to demonstrate how accessible and inclusive sport can be.

All money raised will go to providing sports equipment and sporting opportunities for disadvantaged and disabled children.

Players and Attendees

Attending the event will be David Haye, Peter Phillips, Zara Phillips, Louisa Lytton, Rylan Clark, Gina Rio, Sophie Lawrence, Sallie Axl and Callum Knell among others.

The players include Made in Chelsea & I'm a Celebrity star Hugo Taylor, Another Level singer Dane Bowers, Shameless star Jody Latham, former World Triple Jump Champion Phillips Idowu MBE, Boyzone singer Shane Lynch, Batman Begins and Clash of the Titans film star Tamar Hassan, Olympian & World Champion John Regis MBE, former England Rugby International Martin Offiah MBE, Ken "The Body" George of Gladiators fame, Leyton Orient's Shaun Batt, The Street's Leo Ihenacho, rappers EckSell (as seen on Big Brother) & D-Jukes, former Eastender Ray Dixon aka Chucky Venn, Team GB Paralympic basketball star Mark (Fossy) Fosbrook, Team GB 4x400m star Conrad Williams, Irish stars of film and Youtube The Hardy Bucks and many many more.

Basketball stars Marcus Cambey (NBA legend and superstar playing for the Houston Rockets), Drew Sullivan (Team GB Basketball Captain) and Julie Page (GB Ladies Captain & British basketball player of the year in 2011) will lead the pro line up.

The celebrity team will be managed by Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy.

Timing

The red carpet will be rolled out at 12pm midday for those playing and attending. There will be live action right from the start. In addition to the Pro-Celebrity Basketball game, an exciting programme will include musical performances from urban artists EckSell, D-Jukes, billboard artist Georgia May, upcoming band Kassoma and Sony signed girlband Alfee as well as a slam dunk competition, a brilliant display of basketball tricks and skills and much much more.

HoopsAid is set to be a massively entertaining and interactive fundraising event with Olympians, Pros & Celebrities taking part. It is proposed to take place every 2 years, on the alternate year to SoccerAid. HoopsAid differs from Soccer Aid in that it will also feature disability sport by means of an exhibition wheelchair game involving many GB Paralympians, Celebrities & Battle Back soldiers: truly inspirational athletes facing the HoopsAid challenge.
