HYATT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2013

HUA HIN, THAILAND September 2013 – Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok and Hyatt Regency Hua Hin, in association with the Banyan Golf Club, recently held the fourth annual Hyatt Open 2013 at the Banyan Golf Club, Hua Hin in order to engage with loyal customers, showcase the hospitality of Hyatt hotels in Thailand, and promote Hua Hin as a golf and wellness destination.

As a result of the success of the last three years, this year’s event was well received from 130 participants from 21 countries in Europe and Asia such as Indonesia, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Germany, Ireland, England and of course Thailand, and also sponsors, which are Kiatnakin Bank, Toyota, LawtonAsia Insurance Brokers, Garuda Indonesia, British Airways, Jet Airways and Qatar Airways all supporting the event.

The first day went well, despite of rain throughout the day but it was not a challenge for any golfer. The first round started at 12:00 noon and finished at 5:00 pm. A welcome dinner at the Grand Ballroom of Hyatt Regency Hua Hin completed the first day’s events, allowing guests to enjoy a wide selection from an international buffet while being entertained by the resort’s band. To make the event even more meaningful, this year Hyatt Regency Hua Hin and Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok also organised a charity auction to raise funds for the Slum Child Care Foundation under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Galayani Wadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarinda. The auction items were various types of accommodation from Hyatt hotels and resorts and air tickets. This made the Hyatt Open Golf Tournament not only a fun event but also allowed guests to enjoy a chance to give back to the local community.

The second day began at 8:00 am, with new group pairings based on the scores of the first day. During the two-day event, golf enthusiasts had an opportunity to experience a culinary showcase as well great golf, with the authentic hospitality of Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok and Hyatt Regency Hua Hin as both Hyatt hotels hosted Hyatt’s food and beverage hospitality kiosks to refresh and re-energise the golfers.

After the second day of play, the prize-giving ceremony was held at the golf club. This year, the Hyatt Open 2013 Champion was Mr. Arlius Telaumbanau from Indonesia who won with the lowest overall nett score over the two-day competition. Mr. Telaumbanau received a three-night stay at Park Hyatt Siem Reap, a Titleist Golf Bag, a medal and was announced as the Hyatt Open 2013 Champion and awarded with the silver Hyatt Open Trophy.

The winner in the category of handicap 0 – 9 was Mr. Johnny Walker, who received a prize of a three-night stay at Park Hyatt Tokyo, a Titleist Golf Bag and medal. The winner in the category of handicap 10 – 19 was Mr. Graham Haslam, who received a three-night stay at Park Hyatt Shanghai, a Titleist Golf Bag and medal. This year, no player received the hole-in-one prize, which was a brand new Toyota Vios.

“This event allowed our guests to enjoy the charm of Hua Hin as a destination, experience the ultimate relaxation and authentic hospitality at Hyatt Regency Hua Hin, and at the same time be excited and challenged by the golf tournament. Obviously, we received a very positive response from clients for this fourth annual event as we can see by the high demand of participation. This helped emphasise Hua Hin as a preferred family and golf destination for travellers who look for a weekend getaway from the city,” said Sammy Carolus, General Manager of Hyatt Regency Hua Hin.
