Trends Expert Daniel Levine Explains Why Consumers Are Prioritizing Experiences over Things

09-18-2013 06:37 PM CET | Tourism, Cars, Traffic

Press release from: The Avant-Guide Institute

New York, NEW YORK – While consumers may continue to cut back on buying things, travel and tourism is proving itself much more resilient to challenging economic times. That according to travel expert and keynote speaker Daniel Levine, who points to the fact that global tourism has just surpassed the one-billion mark. "While consumer purchases are flat, or rising incrementally, the travel sector continues to see year-on-year growth that will continue for the foreseeable future" said Levine, a trends expert who heads up the Avant-Guide Institute, a trends consultancy in New York City.

Additionally, travelers continue to seek out new places and new experiences, which includes travel and tourism to exotic locations. Tourism is particularly strong for events, like family reunions, heritage travel and group travel.

On the high end, the fashion industry is capitalizing on the experience trend by getting into the hospitality business, offering high-end resort vacations in recognition that their younger customers are less interested in material goods.

“When the economy is in flux, people are looking for meaningful experiences that will teach them, bring them closer to others, and give them memories that will last a lifetime," said Levine, who is the also the Global Editor of WikiTrend.org, the social trends catalogue for trendsetting ideas, products and experiences.
