PSI Awarded Contract for “Smart Logistic Grids “Research

Berlin, 19 June 2013 – PSI subsidiary PSI Logistics GmbH has, with the official grant notification, received the official order for the “Smart Logistic Grids” research project supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economics and Technology.

In the project, initiated by PSI Logistics and planned for up to the end of 2015, classical approaches for strategic, tactical and operative logistics planning and controlling will be combined in an integrated model. Besides cost reduction aspects, it takes into consideration, in particular, resource efficiency through environmental influences on the entire supply chain. To that end, a Supply Chain Operation Room was developed that derives and holistically evaluates the appropriate action alternatives on the basis of process and environmental events. The required weather and traffic data are merged in a Supply Chain Event Cloud so as to make global and, if possible, multi-modally designed logistics networks more flexible and to improve their holistic planning and control.

As the consortium partners, under the leadership of PSI Logistics, the FIR at the RWTH Aachen, Logistics at the TU Berlin, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics GmbH & Co. KG, TOP Mehrwert Logistik GmbH and ZITEC Industrietechnik GmbH are involved in the research project. GSI Germany is supporting the project partners with the standardization and the transfer of results.

With the start of the project, an accompanying committee will be established in which the interested companies from the various fields can inform themselves about the project in semi-annual meetings.

On the basis of its own software products, PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions for energy management (gas, oil, electricity, heat), production management (mining, metals, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics) and infrastructure management for transport and safety. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs 1,600 people worldwide. www.psi.de, http://www.psilogistics.com/en/home/
