January 5, 2006 - West Palm Beach, FL - Today, leading 2008 independent presidential hopeful, Daniel Imperato expressed his position on US involvement with Italy and relations with the Vatican.

“I stand up for the people of the United States of America particularly the Catholic people of our nation. I look toward the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI, and the government of Italy to realize that the wealthiest catholic population is in the United States of America. In fact, the majority of Catholics in the world are in the Western Hemisphere, as well as the Catholic financial power,” stated Imperato.

Imperato felt that more cooperation was required between Berlusconi’s government in Italy and the Vatican.

“I call on the Vatican and Pope Benedict XVI to not only further spirituality, human rights, and Christianity, but also to work closely with Silvio Berlusconi, the Prime Minister of Italy, and analyze the mistakes that I believe are grave pertaining to the wonderful country of Italy,” expressed Imperato.

The Vatican, according to Imperato, could help Italy rid itself of the corruption that currently plagues the nation.

“The country of Italy, being very corrupt, is also a leader of many products in the areas of design, technology, and engineering. Italy needs to work closely with the Vatican to clean up the corruption in the country and to utilize the great manpower of the Italian people to support collaborative investment in specific places around the world where Italy can play a huge role in the area of manufacturing and productivity,” said Imperato.

Currently, Imperato believes that Italy must strengthen its policy to encourage more US involvement.

“I call on the Untied States of America and our administration to embrace Silvio Berlusconi and to assist Berlusconi and his government in relation to banking and finance, as well as stricter government policies to try to help Italy rid itself of confusion and barriers to entry,” asserted Imperato.

Imperato, a member of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF), says that the United States can learn from Italy and can use those skills to encourage Americans to buy American goods.

“I stand up for the Italian American people, the people of the United States of America, and say that we the United States need to work closely with our Italian partners to increase productivity, further our own ability to create products and design that are fashionable for our people, and create more interest in ‘buying American’,” stated Imperato.

At this point in time, Italy is member of the US coalition fighting the war against terror and maintains good relations with the US. However, Imperato believes more can be done.

“The US needs to use its ally not only on the war on terrorism but also to acquire a competitive edge in manufacturing technology, engineering capabilities, and design. When I’m president of the United States of America in 2008, mark my words, I will embrace Italy and will utilize their great ability to create more business ventures between the United States and its factories, and join together to regain stability in our country as well as throughout the hemisphere.”

Imperato ended his statement as follows: “In addition, I urge the Vatican and the government of Italy to work with the United States immediately pertaining to the deterioration of democracy in Latin America and urge our administration and our President George bush to pay close attention to the sickle.”
