NetModule's NB3700 wireless ?railway router? with VoIP integration facilitates emergency calls via the mobile network and WLAN.

NetModule's NB3700 wireless ?railway router? with VoIP integration facilitates emergency calls via the mobile network and WLAN.

Bern/Niederwangen, Switzerland – April 26, 2013 - Communications specialist NetModule provides compact certified vehicle routers for wireless data and voice communication in mobile environments and digital signage.
These routers comply with the industry standard 72/245/EWG (e1) and EN50155 which are typically required for appliances in trains and buses. The routers support the modern mobile communication standards LTE/4G, UMTS/HSPA+/3G, and GPRS/EDGE, and can facilitate enhancements such as WLAN 801.11 b/g/n and GPS. The modular structure allows individual configuration to suit the customer requirements at a standard price. The fourth router generation from NetModule includes functions that are technically mature and which have already been utilised in various projects – for example, in public transport companies in Lucerne, Switzerland (Verkehrsbetriebe Luzern (VBL)) and in the Hamburg/Holstein area in Germany (Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH)). For these projects, the communications specialist draws on extensive project experience in public transport, digital signage, and in rolling out the relevant devices.

One of the cutting-edge elements in the programme is the NB3700 wireless ‘railway router’ with VoIP integration, which also facilitates emergency calls via the mobile network and WLAN. Thus, the NB3700 is already prepared for the future requirements of the German railway system, the Deutsche Bahn, which aims to provide all of its trains with VoIP. Especially designed for railway applications, the router meets the strictest safety requirements of the railway standards EN50155 T3 (-25°C to +70°C) and EN50155 as well as CEN/TS 45545, with shock and vibration resistance that is compliant with the MIL STD 810F standard. Mobile Internet access is provided via the integrated 3G/4G modem. As a special feature the NB3700 is bundling multiple 3G/4G channels to achieve a considerably higher data rate to distribute the data traffic over these channels. Besides GSM/GPRS/EDGE, high-speed UMTS/HSPA and LTE/4G, the router also includes WLAN client and access point functionality. Typical application areas include the transmission of passenger information and data for electronic payment transactions for on-board ticketing, condition monitoring, logging of operational data, and utilisation as a WLAN access point for the passengers.

The NB2700 router has been designed for mobile applications in buses and trams and is compliant with the usual standards in this industry such as 72/235/EWG (e1) for buses and other means of road transport. It enables fast and reliable Internet access via UMTS or LTE. It also offers new VoIP functions that, in combination with the GSM gateway, facilitates emergency calls from the vehicle regardless of location. The main areas of use of the NB2700 router include the transmission of passenger information and advertisements, the transfer of data for cashless payment at automated ticket machines and the transfer of video data from CCTV cameras or other operational data. With its integrated WLAN access point functionality, the router is ideal for transport companies that want to offer Internet access to their passengers. The use of modern VPN technologies and Mobile IP protocol guarantees transparent seamless handover between the broadband links.

A special feature of both the NB3700 and NB2700 routers is the ‘Mobile IP’ protocol. The Mobile IP agent, which is compatible with the Cisco IOS Home Agent, ensures easy connections between NetModule routers and those of third-party manufacturers. The Mobile IP protocol ensures that handovers between technologies (such as from mobile communications to PWLAN) are not noticed by VPN tunnels or other applications.

For stationary applications, NetModule offers the NB1600-LTE industrial router with functions such as data recording, control, protocol conversion and local data processing and storage. In transportation the NB1600-LTE reliably links automated ticket machines with traffic management systems; in the industrial sector it facilitates secure, cost-effective remote maintenance solutions; and in commercial applications it enables the encrypted transfer of data from ATMs and digital signage systems. It has an integrated 2G/3G+/4G modem for fast Internet access via the mobile network. The router supports all services, from GPRS to LTE, automatically using the fastest one.
