Altech Multimedia and Digiturk introducing next generation

Mount Edgecombe, South Africa/Berlin, Germany, March 12, 2013 - Altech Multimedia, a provider of innovative products and services to the Global Multimedia market, and Digiturk, a leading digital platform operator in Turkey, today announced that they will jointly launch a next generation hybrid set-top box aimed at the evolving markets in Turkey and beyond. This marks a new milestone within a long partnership between the two companies; Altech Multimedia has supplied over 200,000 PVR products to Digiturk since its launch in 2010.

”In our opinion it is and has always been the synergic cooperation between content and technology companies that drives the entertainment markets and we are thrilled about Digiturk choosing Altech Multimedia to further enhance the Digiturk success story by launching the next level consumer product category.“ explains Bartolomeo Caputo, Managing Director of Altech Multimedia Europe.

”For Digiturk it is essential to meet and continuously overexceed our customers expectations in order to secure their satisfaction, improve the user experience and grow our overall business. By connecting the two worlds of Broadcast and Broadband on content side and with innovative hybrid technology products we are on the right track to exactly achieve those goals.“ explains Taylan Özsipahi, Director of the Set Top Box and Conditional Access Department at Digiturk.

The new line of interactive and hybrid set-top boxes (DT-7103HD) uses Irdeto as its highly secure conditional access system. That way Digiturk is able to protect its quality content via broadcast signal, maintain its business model and its leading position within the Turkish Pay TV market. In addition to this classic approach, Altech Multimedia and Digiturk are targeting the growing converged Broadcast and Broadband market as the product is designed to be interactive ready with IP capabilities:

Within the next few months Digiturk plans to switch on the implemented HbbTV standard as well as the state of the art opera browser, thus releasing the full potential of the set-top box. It will then be ready to run a growing range of web based applications, including video distribution, this is protected by Play Ready DRM. Making use of Adaptive Streaming Technology adjusting video resolution according to available IP bandwith, Altech Multimedia‘s hybrid box will ensure a smooth and uninterrupted user viewing experience.

The Altech Multimedia Digiturk DT-7103HD is scheduled to launch in April 2013 and will be on display at Cabsat, March 12-14 in Dubai.
