Brand New R 1200 GS: Touratech Presents Wide Accessory Range

Even long before its presentation the brand new BMW R 1200 GS has probably caused more excitement than any other motorbike ever. It’s the first R series bike to have a liquid-cooled boxer engine, and it has been upgraded with lots of technical innovations. And with it, BMW is opening a new chapter in this bike’s success story.

The R 1200 GS is not only BMW’s best selling motorbike, but is also extremely important in Touratech’s history. After all, despite the increasing competition from the UK, Italy and Japan, more than any other model, it is the typical embodiment of the huge travel enduros.
And while many people among experts circles were still trying to read the tea leaves, the first photos of the prototypes were circulating and the specialists were still speculating about the details, Touratech’s development department was already working flat out and was closely involved in the creation of the new GS. As a development partner to BMW Motorrad, Touratech CEO Herbert Schwarz was already able to take the new Bavarian flagship on a maiden voyage in the late autumn of 2012. And of course, the specially developed Touratech accessories underwent extensive hardness testing on the world’s first adventure tour with the liquid-cooled BMW R 1200 GS on Madagascar.

In time for the sales launch of the new “water boxer”, the Black Forest-based motorbike equipment specialist is now the first manufacturer to present an extensive range of accessories for it. The customised special parts include the much-proven ZEGA Pro case systems, seats in various heights and designs, an extremely stable cylinder crash bar that is combined with the aluminium cylinder guards, an aluminium engine guard with plastic chain guides, a radiator guard to protect the delicate fins from damage, auxiliary lights, “Works” foot pegs, LED headlight protector, a length- and height-adjustable brake lever, a newly developed guard for the drive shaft that is now on the left, hand protectors with additional spoilers etc.
